Hear from some of our dear neighbors and volunteers

God has blessed me and is still blessing me everyday of my life. I love coming to the Agape Center mainly to see and speak to the workers. They are all the sweetest, friendliest, warm hearted people I’ve ever met. Full of the word of God and stories they have been through in their lives.

I was referred to Agape to give donations. I had no idea the extent of their ministry or outreach. When I came to apply for the food bank after going on SNAP / I came in ashamed, humiliated that I had such a need as a retired executive secretary. But I had no idea how the process would bless & encourage me. The counselors were fantastic, & prayer time was such an encouragement. The book store & store for shopping was a surprise bonus. Thank you for every word of blessing you have spoken over my life. I pray for this ministry daily. I could never thank you enough.

I first came to Agape in July of 2020. Beverly, who had volunteered in Moneta told me about the opening of this Agape Center. After filling out an application and hearing what it was all about, I decided it was what the Lord wanted me to do. It has been a real blessing working alongside other Christian volunteers. We started out with 6 neighbors working out of boxes at the back intake garage doors. God has blessed us with many more neighbors who have been helped with food, clothing and housewares. The most important thing that has happened is quite a few have been led to the Lord through our fine group of mentors. I consider this a blessing to share God’s love with our neighbors. It’s also a privilege to serve the Lord and share God’s love at this Center.

It is a joy to serve my Lord with like-minded people who find happiness being servants. I am very happy to be a part of the Agape family. I play a very small role in this organization, but being here makes me happy. I work in the Clothing Department, and it is a joy to prepare the clothing for Neighbors that have a need. The greatest joy comes when the announcement is made that some soul (Neighbor) has been led to accept Christ as their savior. I have no direct part in this, but through the services that Agape offers, indirectly I am a part. I love serving, meeting the needs of our Neighbors. God is good and I am grateful for this opportunity.

Serving at The Agape Center Vinton–Roanoke is, at its core, an act of obedience to where the Lord has led me. But the fuller story is found in the neighbors I get to meet and the moments we share together. It’s in the life stories that hold both joy and sorrow, the hugs offered freely, and the quiet requests like, “Please pray for me—my life is hard.” It’s in the tears that come when someone feels the Lord’s presence during mentoring, the bright smiles of children excited about a new book or game, and the neighbor who has just professed faith in Christ and can’t wait to read their new Bible.

I moved here from Texas 8 years ago to help my son who was diagnosed with 2 incurable cancers in his head. He has 5 children under the age of 7, and the Drs gave him 3 months to a year to live. Today he is cancer free but suffers from the 2 years of chemo and radiation.
Everything Agape has offered, the food, housewares, and most importantly the prayers. I don’t know if I would have gotten through these years without your support.
Also this year I had cancer surgery myself in May. 3 large tumors and endometrial cancer. I am recovering and pray to not need these services much longer.
I thank you all.
