After retiring from a 42-year career in banking, Sherry was looking for a meaningful way to spend her time. What she found at Agape was more than an opportunity to serve.

Through the friendships, encouragement, prayers, and shared mission, she found a community that has become an important part of her retirement journey.

I have the privilege of serving alongside fellow volunteers who not only care for our neighbors but also support and encourage one another. It's part of what makes Agape such a special place.
Ministry isn't always easy, but there are moments of laughter along the way. Sometimes that laughter even comes from a red wagon ride gone wrong. At Agape, there are blessings as well as challenges that unfold behind the scenes. There are quiet burdens carried, tearful prayers whispered, and countless moments of compassion that go unseen.
Through it all, friendships are formed, laughter is shared, and challenges are faced together. Thank you, volunteers, for sacrificing your time, sharing your gifts, and serving our neighbors and one another with compassion and Agape love.

Serving at The Agape Center Vinton–Roanoke is, at its core, an act of obedience to where the Lord has led me. But the fuller story is found in the neighbors I get to meet and the moments we share together. It’s in the life stories that hold both joy and sorrow, the hugs offered freely, and the quiet requests like, “Please pray for me—my life is hard.” It’s in the tears that come when someone feels the Lord’s presence during mentoring, the bright smiles of children excited about a new book or game, and the neighbor who has just professed faith in Christ and can’t wait to read their new Bible.
I’ve watched lives change through Agape—our neighbors’ lives and my own. I’m grateful to be part of what God is doing here and for those who come through our doors.
